Like most people, I thought bears simply went into the den and went to sleep in November, then woke up in the spring and walked away from the den. My friend Rick had found some big bear tracks in the snow during late November and when he told me about it, I went out there and put a couple Covert Scouting Cameras on the mouth of the den and set them to take video. Starting with a warm snap in late February, the big male bear started making an appearance at the mouth of the den. What happened over the next few weeks sheds a whole new light on the denning behavior of black bears as you will see. Enjoy the video.
